I have been so reluctant about getting things for our Cooper S because it’s up around 130k miles and has needed a lot lately. We put $2700 into it 10 months ago, only to have the starter fail the next day for another $800. I was planning on getting wheels and tires for my Wife’s birthday, but I downgraded that to just tires fearing that something bad will happen if I put nice wheels on an old car.
Took it to have the tires put on, alignment and inspection......annnnnnd it’s $2500 to pass inspection.
We’re going to look at a 17' 3 pedal Forester tomorrow....

cracked strut mount, axel boot torn, front control arm bushings torn, crankshaft sensor seal, oil pan gasket, but at least it now has brand new tires on it!
My wife drives 60 miles a day, so even if we can get it passed. It needs a lot in order to be reliable/safe. It’s been good to us for a long time, and we’ll probably keep it as we won’t get dick for a trade. Over time I’ll get it fixed/knock out what I can on my own.

But father than I thought you were but I was going to recommend talking to my mechanic if you feel like it is time to pass it on to someone else. They operate what they call the “no kill Mini shelter” where they take Minis which need a bit of work and bring them back to top shape before finding them a good home. My Mini came out of that program.

We’re going to keep it. We won’t get much for trade (prob $1500 or less). When it gets warm out, I’ll fix what I can on my own and have a shop do the rest. We just need a more reliable car that my wife can drive to work.

Haven’t read into your post history, but if you do wrench some of these aren’t bad to do on your own.
Strut mounts are relatively easy to do if not much is rusted, and a pair of aftermarket ones are ~$150. I replaced the front drivers side axle with an aftermarket one off rockauto (granted, I’ve heard bad things) for about $140. Control arm bushings are also very common, take a look at WayMotorWorks because they have them pre-pressed which makes it easier. I’ve also done camshaft (not crank, although also common) position sensors and those weren’t bad either.
